Humor is our saving grace*, although not everyone shares the same sense of humor. What is hilarious to one person may seem dumb or even offensive to another. That is why jokes and cartoons are banned from our primary ListServ, Residents@seaburylife.com.
But if receiving a good joke would brighten your day or if you miss the opportunity to pass along that "Best Joke I ever Heard", "Just For Laughs" Seabury’s most fun-loving ListServ is the place for you!
Jokes, limericks, photos, and cartoons are all welcomed on this new ListServ. There are still a few rules, however. Submissions should be made in the spirit of true humor; nothing political, nothing R-Rated, nothing belittling a person's religion, race, or sexual preference.
Covid-19 is without question a very serious matter and we are well-advised to read and heed instructions from Seabury and the State government. However TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines are painting such a consistently bleak picture that self-isolation could become very depressing. And this looks like it may be a long haul. Benjamin Franklin was familiar with adversity. Consider this quote from him: “Trouble knocked at the door, but, hearing laughter, hurried away.”
To join our merry band merely reply to uconnjim@yahoo.com (do not use ‘reply all’ and say, YES! or Me Too! or Count Me In or It Sounds Like Fun)

*Social Scientist Tina Tessina, Ph.D., L.M.F.T., has written “We are a species with a sense of humor. But faced with a frustrating, stressful, situation we can become overwhelmed. We strive, we are earnest, we care deeply, and we want to do right. But we forget about having fun, relaxing and enjoying, waiting for things to calm down, lightening up about how awful it all is. Current research has indicated that humor, specifically laughter, counteracts the devastations of stress on the body and immune system. It helps us adapt, learn, grow and survive. Taking yourself and your situation too seriously deprives you of the tool of humor.”
